WinPilot
is the most powerful glider computer software available,
designed to be used with an external GPS data source.
It provides friendly user interface taking advantage
of high resolution 240*320 graphic display with
Colour or 4 (or 16) levels of gray, that is also touch
sensitive. The most suitable hardware is the palm-sized
Compaq iPaq computer powered by Microsoft Windows
Pocket PC operating system. Among the many
features of WinPilot, competition pilots will enjoy
the ability to fly close to the border of restricted
airspace without entering it, clear representation of
the task starting gate, detailed final glide computation
around all the turnpoints , and an easy to use,
yet very powerful task editor, that allows performing
quick "what-if" calculations, that are especially
important during AAT and POST tasks. Recreational pilots
will also enjoy the increased safety and peace of mind
coming from always knowing which airports and landing
sites are within reach from the current position and
altitude (without having to press a single button).
The very rich set of features in a package that is very
simple to use is a trademark of WinPilot and it sets
a new standard on how a pilot-friendly device should
look. Also, the fact that the program runs on off-the-shelf
hardware means that buying it won't break your bank
account. And because, with the Pocket PC operating
system Microsoft provides an excellent set of tools
to manipulate contents of the Windows Palmtop devices,
upgrading the program can by done simply by dragging
a file from one folder to another.
There are two versions of the program: WinPilot
Advanced and Pro. WinPilot Advanced
works with NMEA devices that output either pressure
or GPS altitude (see list of WinPilot compatible
loggers), and WinPilot PRO works with devices that
additionally output climb and true airspeed data.
